The two most persuasive words in the English language are also the simplest: I agree.
In this video, I explore why. For centuries, philosophers spoke of the “commonplace” - the shared ground from which minds open and real persuasion begins.
It might be a shared value, a common experience, or a mutual goal. That starting point changes the tone of the conversation and opens the door for real dialogue. Agreement creates connection, and connection is what makes new ideas possible.
If you want to change someone’s mind, don’t begin with the battle lines. Begin with the common ground.
